Our youth Group join us for workshops, and at our events.
Our current free in-house Junior workshops are for 13-15 year olds, at the Earthbeat Centre in Saltburn. We’ve also now started our Seniors 16-19 yrs workshops,Tuesdays 7,15pm to 9.15pm
These sessions are run by our workers Miki and Wade.
You’ll find everything you need to express yourself through zine-making, drawing and painting, and we’ll try extra activities over the weeks like Lino printing and photography in an inclusive space. No experience is needed to join in.
Here they are to tell you why they come along.
All sessions are led by a former teacher and lead youth worker who have a comprehensive background in zine making and production and creative workshop provision between them and have enhanced DBS and Safeguarding Training in place.
Sessions are free, but attendees are welcome to donate to our tuck shop!
Here’s where our youth group started ..
We were fortunate enough to work with a young LGBTQ+ group based in Redcar in mid 2025, funded through Tees Valley Museums and Kirkleatham Museum. Our sessions were over 6 weeks and the young people produced some epic mini-zines, which we published as a professionally printed zine and they all had a fantastic show at Kirkleatham Museum. The group also worked on a mini film with Wade which was presented at the show and one of the young zine makers went on to join us at our ‘Frankenzine’ zine fest in Redcar in October too!

I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks to you all for the incredible experience you have given the young people in the Skittles group over the past few weeks.
The project has been such a gift. For my child, it has done more than simply introduce a new art form. It has helped build confidence in their creativity, given them space to explore and express themselves, and encouraged real self-reflection. It has been wonderful to watch them not only develop their artistic voice but also grow in their sense of identity, history and community.
Learning about zine culture and creating something so personal yet collaborative has been a real highlight. It has sparked conversations at home, opened doors to new ways of thinking, and shown how creative work can be a powerful tool for connection, understanding and pride. They have loved being part of a team, learning to share and shape ideas together, and seeing their efforts come together in a beautiful exhibition.
The exhibition at Kirkleatham Museum is a true celebration, not only of their work but of the young people themselves. It was so special to walk through it with them, to see their creations on the wall, and to witness the pride and excitement they felt. That moment will stay with us for a long time.
Projects like this make such a difference. They show young people that their voices matter, that their stories are valued, and that creativity can be a joyful and liberating force. The care, thought and encouragement you have brought to this project really shines through, and I hope it is just the beginning of more opportunities like this in our community.
I truly look forward to seeing what you do next and would be delighted for my child to be involved in any future projects. It means so much to us as a family to see them grow and shine in this way.
